FFWD Magazine Love:

Dada Centauri is the synthesizer duo of Calgary experimental heads Whitney Ota and Andrew Hume, both of whom I usually associate with kosmische guitar jams and non-stop drumming, but here they’ve teamed up to conjure damaged soundscapes. Over the course of II’s uninterrupted half-hour sides, the duo’s synth tones are stretched, squelched, smeared into the ether and blown out into static wash. One might be tempted to describe IIas “spacey,” but space is such a rote cliché for synthesizer explorations at this point that it’s more interesting to focus on the duo’s earthiness: rivers of molten drones, distorted vocals (maybe?) howling like torrid wind, and the occasional malfunctioning melody that bubbles to the surface like boiling fluid in some mad scientist’s lab. There’s over an hour of material so it’s a bit much to take in all at once, but II is a neat surprise that, while a touch aimless at points, manages to eke out a fairly distinctive sound in the crowded synth tape field. Somebody hire these guys to soundtrack a sci-fi film, pronto!
